Scrapbook getaway in Bodega Bay….

bodega-bay-from-the-breakaway.jpg

Tonight, me and 8 other ladies are trashing a beach house.  This is the view out the balcony window.

And yes, by trashing, i mean…..

we’ve moved a sectional couch, end table, coffee table, wing chairs… down a short flight of stairs…

we set up our 4′ tables, staggered thru the room for optimum wide screen tv viewing.

we have enough food to survive for at least 2 months.  (unfortunately, we’ll probably run out of margaritas sooner)

and we each have at least 5 boxes of papers, photos, embellishments… tools…

This trip, I’m not actually scrapbooking – i’m organizing my photos- both on my computer and the boxes of photos as well. And i’m trying some digi-scrapping…. but it’s 2am now…. and time for bed!!!

What can Brown do for you??????

upsbirthday2007.jpg  It started innocently enough… Sgt Saldanha mentioned one night in briefing how he used to work for UPS in the warehouse.   Me, wearing my normal brown shirt or brown pants or something brown somewhere, blurted out “Oh- my dream job is to deliver for UPS!”  This took everyone by surprise, as they’ve worked with me as a dispatcher for 17 years now.  Did they really think this was my dream job? LOL- silly men.  Since then, my long time friend Gerald (we double-dated at the high school prom, now we work together 20+ years later and NO, i’m old but not THAT old!), greets me with “What can Brown do for you?”.

Kim, another co-worker/personal friend/stamping buddy, also knows of my love affair with UPS.  I mean, how can anyone hate a guy wearing brown shorts, showing off tan legs and bringing GIFTS?  As a Stampin’ Up! demo- (demon, as i frequently tend to type), I see a lot of Anthony- the UPS God who delivers my route.  Funny thing about Anthony- he also delivers to my sister on his commercial route- he gets around.  It’s okay.  I love him anyway.  Kim presented me with a gift bag, snuck into my locker while I was away last weekend- inside:  a UPS die cast airplane and a UPS hat- courtesy of her close friend who is a safety manager for UPS.  Incidentally, UPS has never had a fatal road accident, or plane crash.  So I guess her friend is doing his job.  In my mailbox at work, Gerald put a UPS pen.  I have GREAT friends!!!

And now for a Challenge card.   There is a Dirty Dare challenge going on at SCS to celebrate 3 years of the Dirty Girl Fan Club.  So current and former Dirty Girls are inviting us to get dirty with them.

For SweetMissDaisy/aka Anna Wights challenge- Animals, and for Genie1314/aka Jen’s sketch challenge, I humbly present you my first (and only until next week- another weekend away- this time- Scrapbook Getaway at a beach house!) Dirty Girl card:

catloverswapjuly2007.jpg  This is done on Purely Pomegranate Textured cardstock – it’s a 5×5 card.  Then I used Old Olive textured cardstock.  Basic Grey Phoebe is the Bird panel, Wally the cat and the flower panel.  Purely Pomegranate double stitched ribbon finishes it off.  The Wally panel is raised on dimensionals. The sentiment “Happy Birdie to you!” is from AmuseArtsStamps.  This is also a swap card- so I’m making 6 of these, plus a couple extra for me!!

Ginormous breaking news!!!

Dare to be infused….

These cards were GINORMOUS fun to make!  oh, speaking of Ginormous….

A Sampling of new words and senses from the new 2007 update of Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition

Just two years after a majority of visitors to Merriam-Webster OnLine declared it to be their “Favorite Word (Not in the Dictionary),” the adjective “ginormous” (now officially defined as “extremely large: humongous”), has won a legitimate place in the 2007 copyright update of Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition.

Merriam-Webster updates its best-selling Collegiate® Dictionary every year with a number of new words, senses, and variants. This year, the word “ginormous” was one of approximately 100 neologisms to make the cut, while many others will stay “closely watched” by our editors for possible inclusion in future revisions. (This, of course, begs the question: so just exactly how does a word get into the Merriam-Webster dictionary?)

As those who participated in our 2005 “Favorite Word (Not in the Dictionary)” online survey will undoubtedly agree, the word “ginormous” has undeniably proven its true staying power.

Here’s a sample of the nearly 100 new words and senses now deemed ginormous enough to be included in the 2007 copyright version of the best-selling Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition—available this fall in bookstores everywhere. How many of these words are already a part of your vocabulary?

Isn’t that awesome??? Ginormous is a real word now!

So, CARD FACTS:  Chocolate Chip base, Basic Grey Infuse paper, Basic Grey ribbon, Dare to Be Fabulous stamp set sentiment is embossed with Old Olive powder.  The silk flower (dime store) was colored with River Rock and Cameo Coral inks and folded into quarters… then a hole punched in it for the Rhinestone (Fire) brad and ribbon, adhered with glue dots.   Just for fun!

i’d like to thank the academy….

Gse_multipart70637

and my wonderful, inspirational friends in Blogland and SCS… Jan Hunnicutt ala http://jans-gonestampin.blogspot.com/, was kind enough to nominate me as a Rockin’ Girl Blogger!  Little Ol’ Me!  To quote Sally Field… “You like me! You really like me!”  haha!!

Well, this is a surprise and very nice! As is the custom, I’m to list at least 5 other Rockin’ Girl Bloggers and I’d like to shout back out to Jan- it’s nice to have someone to visit me and me visit them regularly via blogging.  I’d like to also shout out to Maria, CreativeMoonBeam- www.creativemoonbeam.blogspot.com… now- she hasn’t posted since June 30th- but she got me into this! Darnit- she’s gonna HAVE to post to earn the title!!!  And then, even tho she already knows she’s rockin’, http://www.kwernerdesign.com/blog/index.html is my hero.  Another Rockin’ Girl i stop by and visit: Peggy ala http://smallpigpig.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com.   Last, but not least, Jen at http://iheart2stamp.com. All of these ladies are fun to read, have such great talent and interesting personalities.  There are a lot more blogs out there that i enjoy too, but seriously- who can list them all?  If you don’t believe me,  check out my Stampin’ Blogroll.. they’re all there!

Now… I’ve been gone for a few days, and have had exactly 5 full days off with my husband.  We managed to not kill each other!  If you’ve been reading my previous posts (instead of just LOOKING at the pictures!), you will know i recently had a birthday.  It’s offically my 10th anniversary of my 29th birthday!  So we went to Sea Ranch, which is on the Sonoma County/Mendocino County border of Northern CA… near a cute little town called GUALALA.  Gwah-la-la.  I have included 2 pics i like as well as one of the thank you card for the folks whose house we stayed in.

searanchthankyou.jpg  My thank you card- I had fun doing this!  I used glossy white cardstock.  I masked the bottom with torn paper to create the hills.  Using Blue Bayou, Cool Carribean, Bordering Blue, Soft Sky, So Saffron, Cameo Coral, I sponged and blended the colors to create the ocean, horizon, sky and setting sun.  I removed the masked hills and sponged on Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel and Sahara Sand for the ground.  Then it was time for TREES. I stamped the trees from the center up with stamping off technique, leading up to a darker image as I moved out to the sides.  The last few trees were stamped with Bro Stazon.

I cut a 2.75″x3.75″ window in the card base (textured blue bayou), mounted the ”photo” inside and covered it with more cardstock behind the glossy (inside the card).  Used regular twine, Hodgepodge Hardware and the sentiment is from Vogue Vases.  Oh, the tree set is Lovely as a aTree.  So… how did i do in re-creating the real life landscape- as in the pic below?  I love this card… i hope Dave & Jeanne do too.  They have a great house!

searanchjuly07.jpg    Real life Northern CA coast

keithsearanch07.jpg   Real life husband, Keith

And today-  i got to play again!  This is for Tuesday’s Splitcoast Color Combo Challenge (CC124) Olive Pink!  Had to use Old Olive, Regal Rose and Pretty In Pink.  This is my card with Pick a Petal and Friendship Flowers.

cc124july2407.jpg  I used Dazzling Diamonds in the center, after first stamping the center with Regal Rose.  Then outlined the petals by hand with OO marker. Stamped the sentiment in Close to Cocoa.  Used OO Textured cardstock, PIP, RR and Very Vanilla cardstock… and tied a pink gingham bow on it!

I think that’s enough sharing today. (ya jeez, gabby)(hey- respect your elders!) – so i’m signing off.  Thanks again for nominating me Jan (if you continued to read this far! LOL!).  Thanks for stopping by!

Surprise party for Harvey….

Please Come

Snuck in to the stamp room for a quickie w/Harvey- LOL!  Wanted to play in the color combo challenge today, so I dashed off for a half hour while my dear hubby watched the Tour de France…  I wanted to use the Please Come set and it looks like I’m the first to upload this set in the SCS Gallery- WOOT WOOT! I WIN! nothing actually.

So- colors for today are: Bordering Blue, Mellow Moss, Not Quite Navy and optional -Always Artichoke.  I opted for no AA.  This is also my first Pocket Card!  The pocket is done with a 4.25″x11″ sheet of cardstock- scored at 5.5″ and then another score at 1″ to create the front flap.  Then i used a Creative Memories corner rounder (eeek! not SU??!!  Scandalous!) (hey, why buy another from SU when CM works fine? eh?) (tsk tsk!) (bah! leave me alone!)  to round the corners (obviously).

Oh dear.  Okay, continuing… the pocket is Mellow Moss and i used the jumbo wheel So Swirly (love the girly swirly) and MM ink cartridge.  I also did this on the NQN insert.  I stamped the invitation detail with Blk Stazon.  I stamped Harvey from Here Kitty Kitty in Bordering Blue- just a smidge of him peeking (ooops-typo alert- almost wrote PEEDING)  out at you.  Finished off with In the Spotlight flowers stamped in NQN on NQN CS and punched with 5 petal punch, decorated with rhinestone brads from Pretties kit and Ice/Fire.  Also used a JUMBO pewter brad (those rock by the way!).  Did i forget anything? (breathing perhaps?)

I actually made this because it’s my birthday Friday.  27 yrs old!!! (you dirty rotten liar! tell the truth!) (aaah, they’ll never know so be quiet!) (LLPOF!) (shh!).   I am a cancer and can be quite crabby.  We are going this weekend to Sea Ranch (i hope that wild ram terrorizing SR the other day doesn’t show up)  (don’t be ridiculous, he’s in jail) (he may have posted bail!) (aww you’re nutz) for 3 nights.  We’re staying in a house that a friend owns- he rents it out to friends for a very reasonable price and so we’ll be there for some peace and tranquility.  Mountain biking, hiking and maybe a bonfire at the beach.  Oh, and Keith doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going to load up on movies to watch… mmmwaahahhaaaa… he’s held captive on MY birthday weekend so i get to force him to watch movies with me!!!!

Maybe i need to up my meds…
