blog banners…

sunflower.jpgvegas.jpgstriped-banner.jpg

I found a tutorial on the web (photoshop tutorials) on how to create your own blog banner (since the 1st banner was created by Beth from FreckledFunDesigns).  I get bored and need change tho, so it was time for me to learn.  WordPress is actually pretty easy to change the banner because it doesn’t require code edits- only a .jpg upload.  As long as you size the canvas right (WordPress is 720×180 pixels), it will upload no sweat.    If it’s bigger, it’ll let you pick how to crop it.  Here are a few I came up with…

Above was the 1st creation, my practice banner!!  I used a digital scrapbook page for the background and played around with the “gradient” tool.

This one was another digital scrapbook page for the background, and some new fonts downloaded- as well as my favorite kitty… Harvey the Cat from Here, Kitty Kitty (Stampin’ UP!) so here’s one featuring him….harvey-banner.jpg

This one is fun- from a kit from Shabby Princess – the kit is called Urban Kiwi and FREE!

and finally, i have settled on the banner in use now - using Ronna Penner’s In the Pink from the Daisy Company.

I downloaded some free digital kits from the following places to help create the banners….  fonts & scrapbook kits.

Shabby Princess

Geocities Free Fonts

Scrap Girls

Check ‘em out!  Oh, and if you like, I can make one for you- just ask!  I’m still learning, so it’s free for a .jpg.  However, if you need to know HOW to load it, or the html code – you better go see Beth at www.freckledfundesigns.blogspots.com….

… America Album for the soldiers…

A few weeks ago, there was a post from a gal on SCS who was looking for volunteers to scrapbook an 8×8 page of their state- she wanted one from all 50 states as she was making an album for her brother and his unit in Iraq.  I first signed up for California, then as the time when on, volunteered for Hawaii and Oregon also.  I wanted to do a photo montage of each state that would, if any soldiers were from that state, help them remember what was special about their home.  I also wanted to showcase the beauty of the states that would inspire these troops to visit them if they hadn’t been there.  I must say, this project has planted the seeds for a Portland trip this December…  :D   Portland keeps coming up in conversations this summer, so it looks like it’s a go.  The organizer of this project will be posting the pages in her gallery as she gets them- so keep checking HERE to see them all!

Color challenge Card for this week:  I wasn’t sure about this card the day i made it…. but when i went back to the scrap room the next day, i thought it was okay!!

ccaug2007.jpg

It’s a 5×5 card, using the Bronc Buster stamp set in a more girly way!  The color challenge:  Purely Pomegranate, Pretty in Pink and Old Olive.  The background stamp- Weathered, Every Day Flexible Phrases for the sentiment- “all girl”.  I dyed the Pretties flower with the Old Olive ink in the center and Purely Pomegranate ink- direct to the pad.  I aged the panels with Close to Cocoa, as well as colored the chipboard with it.  Then, after the craft ink dried on the chipboard, i sanded it lightly.  Finishing touches are Old Olive grosgrain and Ice rhinestones in green.
