featured stamper… my friend Kristie!

i wish she had an SCS gallery to refer you to.

i wish she had a blog to link here…

but all i have are these pics to share.  Kristie is in my SU! demo group and i’ve long been a fan of her clean style, multiple layers and fun designs.  She has a crazy, busy life with 3 kids and a very sweet hubby- who doesn’t seem to mind that the entire front rooms of the house have been turned into Stampin’ Zones!  Without further ado….

Our group’s most recent swap- Groovy Guava, Purely Pomegranate and Wild Wasabi inks and papers- Fabulous Flowers stamp set and clear embossing powder.  For the large image, she stamped on Whisper White paper multiple colors of the flower images and then stamped over that with the large flower image with versamark.  She then clear embossed it, then brayered over it (after it cooled off) with Cranberry Crisp ink, wiping the excess ink off the embossed part.   This technique left the Cranberry Crisp on the negative space between the petals.

about the “being one with rough edges” thing….

You remember my Bitty Book tutorial i posted the other day?  Where I commented that if you wrap the papers around the book it wouldn’t fit into the case easily, so “being one with the rough edges” was my advice?  Well, it occurred to me today that we don’t have to take it.  We can do something about it.  We can EMBOSS THE EDGES.

I mean, why not?  We already cut our pretty papers and pasted them onto something.  If we can do that, then we can certainly heat up some colored plastic.  Here’s my stab at it.

1-embossing-bb.jpg

  • Get out your Versamark pad, your choice of embossing powder, tray and heat gun.  In this case, I am using Stampin’ Up! Old Olive powder.  Incidentally, I also save the paper inserts from my new scrapbooks to use for embossing (easier for me to keep the powder confined and put back into the jar).  So that is the white square in the embossing tray.

  • Ink up the edges of the book with the Versamark.  Spread out the powder until it’s a large enough to accomodate your book edge.

  • Tap your book edge into the powder a few times, taking care to get as much of the edge covered with powder as possible.
  • Be sure to move the tray or move to another area when using the heat gun to set the powder…  otherwise you’ll have a bigger problem than trying to be one with rough edges.

So that’s my tip for the day.  Mine turned out okay- it didn’t ruin the bitty book, but there was a little residue in places not intended.  And I didn’t quite figure out how to get the Versamark into the half circles on the case.  Maybe a Versamark pen- although those have never really worked for me.

Good luck!!!
