OCD Alert!

A place for everything.  Everthing in it’s place.  The mantra for OCD types, aka as Anal Retentive (wonder what kind of searches my blog will hit on with THAT term?? hee hee!).   I found the perfect storage system for my chipboard.  I have a ton of chipboard.  A ridiculous amount really.

Previously, I had it in a binder- each letter in it’s own spot – but I have some much that the 4″ binder wouldn’t close.  Remember floppy disks?  I had 3-ring binder plastic sleeves that held 6 floppy disks per side, for 12 total floppy disks per plastic sleeve.  It didn’t work well – the idea was good- but the chipboard would slip out the top when I would lay the binder down to flip thru the pages.  So i have been on the lookout for a better solution.

TA-DA!  Lowe’s home improvement store had a drawer organizer that is bigger than the other ones I’ve seen out there.  It was under $20!  There are 18 drawers, all the same size and they fit all the big pieces of the Stampin’ UP! Simon OnBoard chipboard sets.

See?  I have 3 letters per drawer and still plenty of room to add more! hee hee! I haven’t yet labeled the last 6 drawers as I’m still trying to sort those but right now I have hearts & stars together, flowers alone since there’s a bunch of those, punctuation, tags, circles, squares &  rectangles together and of course numbers are combined as well.  There are a few pieces of OnBoard that are longer than the drawers and I’ve kept those in the plastic they came in, in the magazine holder next to the drawers.  My alpha stickers and Rub-on’s are in binders next to that.

I decided that since I have a ton of die-cut alphas from Basic Grey as well, I might as well put those in there too.

So, for those of you out there struggling to store, easily find and use your chipboard or diecuts- I hope this gives you something to go on!

Tuesday again?

Did you see this post on AJ’s blog?  A RAK for…  She was sending it to me!!!  I got this in the mail yesterday and can i say, it’s even cuter in person!  Thanks AJ- i love the hedgehog and the layout and you’re truly a sweetie to send such nice wishes!

Last night, my hostess club started up again.  For my club, I put together 1/2″ binders with a plain white title page slid into the front, as seen in this picture.  Each meeting they will have a tutorial on the project to add to the binder.

2008-01-29_0505.jpg  My hostesses will earn a raffle ticket for decorating their title page!

Inside the binder are 10 card sketches – taken directly off the SCS sketch challenges.  Since we are meeting every other month, I am having the hostess pick a card sketch each meeting, and having them create swap cards between meetings.  I want them to use the stuff they buy as well as do the techniques we learn, at home.

At the next meeting, the hostesses will have created 7 swap cards using the sketch.  If they participate, they get another raffle ticket!   From there, they can continue to earn more raffle tickets for using certain embellishments, techniques and even if they mail a card to me at any time!  At the end of our club, I’ll pull a raffle ticket and the winner gets $50 to spend in the current catalog.

Last night, we created the notecard tote (designer Leslie Rich)  using SU designer papers.  They all did great!  The one below is using Spring Fling.  I realized I didn’t stamp the sentiments on my demo cards last night- but they would be stamped in White Craft ink if they were there!

Check back tomorrow for my latest Craft Room storage find!

this made me giggle…

I’m taking 2 courses this semester… Biology & Critical Thinking.  In the course syllabus for biology, the instructor listed learning outcomes.

By the time i finish the course, i’ll be able to differentiate between Living and Non-Living Things.

Thank god for that!!

Stamp-a-ma-Jig tip

2008-01-23_0502.jpg

Here is a tip in case you hadn’t figured this out already.  Maybe I’m just catching on to something you all already know!  However, in case you don’t, I’m about to make the StampAMaJig much more efficient for you!

Using the wonderful acetate from my post long ago, I decided to make my alpha set a little more user friendly (this one in particular because it looks so great overlapping and colored).  Without the SAMJ, it’s a gamble on whether you get the letters stamped right.  However, stamping a letter on the SAMJ plastic, then again on the card for every letter is daunting.  So MAKE PERMANENT GUIDES to keep in your stamp set’s box!  Ready to go everytime!  Use black stazon and it’ll stay there forever.

2008-01-23_0503.jpg  Some of the letters perform double duty- “n” is the “u”, “b” is the “p”, etc.  I just wrote with a sharpie a reminder of what letter to use when looking for one of those.

For this particular alpabet, the strips of Acetate are 1.5″ x 2.75″.  Worked like a charm!

PS/ If you purchase anything in that horrid thick plastic packaging, and it’s flat, such as Autumn Leaves acrylic stamps, you can also REUSE that plastic for this!  It’s thicker and bumps up to the SAMJ nicely.   I somehow seemed to have acquired several AL acrylic sets (omg! traitorous!) and just used a box cutter to cut out a large rectangle, then my paper trimmer to make them into nicely sized, straight edged rectangles.  Wonderful You now has it’s own permanent SAMJ guide.

LATTE inspiration LATELY

Starbucks.  My version of the happiest place on earth.  Pretty much a daily habit for me and not only for the Chai Lattes either.  Have you ever noticed how beautiful their stores are?  The colors on the walls? The furniture, the artsy mugs and holiday wares on display?  The beautiful coffee boxes or bags?  I have been known to buy stuff just to recreate the images, color schemes with my cards or scrapbook pages.

This card was inspired by the new travel mug I bought recently- notice the colors?  Totally Old Olive, Chocolate Chip and a brighter Soft Sky.  The leafy, berry branches too… remind you of anything????  LOL!

starbucks-inspired-friend-card.jpg  So here is my version of the mug.

Supplies:  Wonderful You, Jumbo Outline Alpha, Whimsical Lower Alpha stamp sets.  Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky, Old Olive and Whisper White cardstock and inks.  Earth Elements Watercolor Crayons, Aquapainter, StampAMaJig.  I tried out Tombow’s Mono Multi glue (pg 186 in the big catty) and am happy to say it works like a charm.  You have a few minutes to move the cs around before it sets.

starbucks-inspired-friend-card-close-up.jpg The “fun” was hand drawn on Old Olive cs and then cut out.  I also used the Tombow Mono Multi (from here on referred to as TMM!) to adhere the little letters to the card.

I took some time today to cut up acetate into 13   1.5″ x 2.75″ rectangles and created permanent StampAMaJig sheets for the Jumbo Outline Alpha.  I thought I had a pic to show you, but I guess it’s at home (yes, i’m at work blogging between radio traffic and phones!  If you really must know, I’m also working on my next Stampin’ order too!)

Basically, for each double block for the alpha, I stamped it on the acetate rectangle with black stazon.  Now, anytime i need to use this set, I have StampAMaJig templates ready.  I’ll edit this post to include the pic of this tomorrow morning. :D
