love it when it all comes together…

Not sure what my deal is, but i usually wait til the DAY BEFORE a class or a swap is due (to mail) to “git er done” and it always comes out better than when i plan responsibly and schedule prep into my time.  For some reason, it goes faster too- today only took me about 4 hours to get ready for my Embellishment Bonanza class.

My Embellishment Bonanza class is a way for my customers to play with the new goodies that they may not know how to use or even know they exist in the catalog.  For instance- I had NO IDEA there was a thing called Sticky Cuts letters (pg 186) until SU! announced a trial bulk buying program (thank you SU! -that ability singlehandedly makes classes like this SO much more do-able for Demos!) that had a few of these available in bulk.  No idea  – never even saw it!  I also never saw “Essence of Love” set in the Mini preview either, until Krystie Lee’s card presented itself to me (the clouds parted, the angels sang and i now must own this set too!)… Funny how you can miss things in the catalog…  guess that is good because every day brings a new surprise…. {eyes rolling here}.

So anyway… this is one card that I came up with all by my little bitty self… and I LOVE IT! OMIWERD!  This card features Die Cut Blooms and Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware from the Occasions Mini.  I managed to use up some scraps too!  Okay- Whisper White cs as the base- then some Textured White cs as the front panel… (this was the scrap!), then I stamped “You’re the Best” from the A Little Birdie Told Me set, punched it with a 1″ square punch- then adhered it to the HPH bookplate with some double sided tape, then thread Bashful Blue Grosgrain ribbon through the holes and adhered them to the back side of the front panel. Then i adhered the panel to the base.  Beate had a card on her blog where she sponged the Die Cut blooms with some of the same color ink and that really added something to it, so that’s what i did here, with Bashful Blue and Pumpkin Pie ink, before mounting them onto the card with Dimensionals.  (Oh, and i added the brad from HPH too, before mounting it!).  For the leaves, I punched on flower with the 5 Petal Punch and cut the flower into leaves, adhered with a glue dot.  I finished it by drawing stitches with the white gel pen.  Does this card not totally rock???   ya it does.  fer shure.

And Card 2 – Featuring Dyed Pretties and Rub Ons.   This was inspired by a card made by JennT.  To dye the flower, I simply laid the flower on a Pretty In Pink classic pad, and sponged it until most of the flower was colored.  I then blotted it with paper towels.  I also added some Old Olive via ink from the lid and an aquapainter- adding a line down the center of the petal.  To speed up the drying process, I used the heat gun for a few minutes, keeping it in place with some tweezers.  I used the oval punch for leaves- Old Olive cs for that as well as the 1″ circle punch for the center.  Dazzling Diamonds was put on the center with 2way glue and then a flat back pearl.   SAB Love & Happiness rub-ons finished the card.

ep-class-cosmo-glitter-felt-flowers.jpg

Our 3rd card features Sticky Cuts Letters, Cosmo fine glitter and Felt Fusion Flowers.  I shamelessy copied DaisyStampinator’s card, making minor adjustments.  Stamp set used- Happy Everything, Old Olive base, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White cs, Bali Breeze DSP, Purely Pomegranate ink, H sticky cut letter, Piercing mat, Earth Elements brads, Cosmo fine glitter (the pink actually matches the DSP better than what this pic shows).  White narrow grosgrain ribbon and the corner rounder.   I love these colors!

eb-class-build-a-brad-scallop-punch.jpg

And finally, our 4th card features Build a Brad, the Scallop punch and my current fav set- Always.  Soft Sky, River Rock, Shimmer White and River Rock DSPrints paper; Blue Bayou, River Rock, Soft Sky ink.  Scallop Punch, 1 3/8″ circle punch, 1 1/2″ circle punch, 1/4″ circle punch (for the brad).  River Rock stitched ribbon & Build a Brad.

I hoped you enjoyed my cards as much as I did making them!

mastering the bird…

and no, i don’t mean the hand gesture.  I mean this wildly beautiful image from Stampin’ Up! – Always.  The bird won me over and so I purchased the set.  I’m not a big “heart” girl, but I will say the heart image in this set is pretty awesome too.  Becky has an awesome, sweet card using the heart so check it out!

always-bohemian2.jpg

I wanted to get a little bohemian today (after I completed the priority task – 15 swap cardfronts that are due THIS Monday, not NEXT Monday like i was thinking for some reason!).  Those are done, so i got to play a little with this bird.  I stamped the bird with Old Olive craft ink and brushed the edges of the stamp with Chocolate Chip craft ink, then stamped it on whisper white cs.  I covered it in Clear embossing powder and set.  Then I cut the bird out and adhered it to the rest of the card.

always-bohemian.jpg

Here is a close up of the color combo on the bird- I LOVE how the embossing turned out on this.  Very aged and rustic.  I’m going to keep exploring this technique with this card- I have another swap due on the 11th, so this might be my gig.  On this card, I’m not sure I like the stamped berry twigs below, but oh well. :p

Okay- the card is mostly SU, but there’s some other stuff too.  Sets were Always & True Friend.  Inks – Old Olive, Chocolate Chip craft and Close to Cocoa classic for sponging.  Close to Cocoa & Very Vanilla txcs (textured card stock), Whisper White cs.  Chocolate Chip marker to ink the sentiment (partial). Tres Jolie line patterned paper, SU Hodgepodge Hardware, Theater ribbon originals, KC&Co rhinestones, clear embossing powder.

In other news- Keith doesn’t need surgery!  His clavicle is where it should be and the doc is confident he’ll have no lasting issues with the shoulder once the clavicle is healed.  So we’re happy!

shesallthat-birthday.jpg

This is another She’s All That card, using the same layout I posted last week, just changing out the DSP and color combo. However, I wanted to add some Bling- thus- Chunky Glitter, also from the Occasions Mini.  The cake was a little too small for the chunky glitter so it looks like a blob (kinda like the cakes i’m making IRL - i’ve been taking a cake decorating class!).

Card Deets:  She’s All That, Certainly Celery, Pretty in Pink, Spring Fling DSP & WW cs.  Die Cut Blooms and Chunky Glitter from Occasions Mini- available to order starting March 1.

Tag You’re It… again!  If you are a tag freak like me, feel free to tag yourself and link back to me w/a comment to this post (so i can read about you!)….  I was tagged by AJ, Willsomama.

1. Stamping Style:  All over the place… i have no idea!
2. Inspiration:  SCS for sure, then my swap group, Starbucks, Pottery Barn, Fabrics, Ads, anything!

3. Color: Love Chocolates from Mocha to Dark ganache….

4. Work Space:  A small, purple room in our granny unit

5. Perfect day: Everytime i go to write this, it changes from waking up to snow covered mountains- to sunny carribean waves rolling up to the shore where my french doors are open to the sand, to a large breakfast buffet and a day of sightseeing in the mediterranean to shopping all day in NYC as well as just watching movies and stamping.  If i win the lotto- this all will be my perfect day!

6. First Job:  Salesclerk at a baby store

7. Wildest dream:  Working for Simple Scrapbooking Magazine in the layout department (setting up the magazine itself!), then writing or designing projects for the magazine
8. Ink:  Whatever it takes!  Mainly SU!

9. Family:  Husband Keith… 2 dogs, a cat, a friend who lives in the granny unit and of course mom, MIL, FIL, Sis and BIL, SIL’s and another BIL, 2 neices and a nephew, 4 more dogs, 2 more cats and i’ll just stop there….

10. Beverage:  Right now- Grande NF No Water Extra Hot Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks… (i’m really cold right now and want a warm & tasty beverage)

11. Biggest Challenge:  Procrastination… but i seem to work best under pressure… go figure.

Speaking of pressure- I need to mail my Occasions Swaps soon and this morning, I woke up to my She’s All That card idea – I’m off to the lab to see if it works!  Enjoy your Monday!!!

d:)

rub-ons for home decor??

Greetings and Salutations!

So today I was going to host a party for this direct sales company called Uppercase Living, which is so cool!  It’s bascially rub-ons for your home!!  You can pick a design/sentiment from the catalog, or create your own custom phrase, any size and you rub it on the wall (textured walls too!) with the edge of a credit card.  The other cool thing is that you can remove it in one piece and change them out- so maybe Christmas, Easter, Seasons, whatever!  My friend Kim has a french styled powder room at her house and she ordered “Oui Oui” for that room… she’s hilarious!  But after getting home from Utah, I’ve come down with a nasty cold.  I’m trying to keep Keith from getting it because that would only delay his surgery.  Kinda hard when I have to help him get shirts and socks on, help him in the shower AND cook dinner (aagghh!).

We’ve been a bunch of real party animals here, if you can imagine!

To keep myself occupied (no energy to stand up in my studio and stamp), i’ve been digi-scrapping. I wanted to get the Snowbird injury on a page fast because i was the crazy wife taking pics of her injured husband as he was being triaged.  Yah, he’s used to it.

I also wanted to learn how to use page templates because I get stuck on layouts so easily.  Here is a page i did learning how to use the templates, and “clipping” in PSE 6.0.  I just used a random pic and a favorite set of digital papers  (Lemongrass from Sweet Shoppe Designs).  The page template is “Bejeweled” by Scrap Simple at Scrapgirls.com.

web-simple-girl.jpg

Using the page templates was easy once I found the ScrapGirls.com tutorials – in case you’re wondering.  Also, the fonts used are Century Gothic for the journaling, Gigi for the word “Girl” and Messy Stamped Alpha by Katie Pertiet from Scrapgirls.com.   I can’t remember where I got the flower and frame- (oops!).

web-snowboard-stories.jpg

Here’s the page in honor of Keith’s clavicle and silly attempt to stave off his middle-aged-ness.  Snowboarding is NOT for 40 yr old men, no matter how fit and athletic they are.  Unless they grew up on skis and ski every season.  We aren’t hard core skiers.  And now, this injury of his is interferring with his real passion, cycling.  First, he missed The Amgen Tour of California - which is a huge deal in Santa Rosa (10 minutes away) while we were in Utah.  Then, Friday we were going to drive down to Solvang for another big day of cycling- the Time Trials.  However, the 8 hour car trip wasn’t going to happen in his condition.  He also is not going to be able to ride with his regular gang for a while, which sets him back for training for a century road race in May.  So, ya… snowboarding wasn’t such a good idea!  He’s taking it okay now, but I’m sure that by the end of this next week, he’ll really start thinking that was a dumb move.

While watching tv tonight, he saw an ad with a snowboarder and had the nerve to say “ya, i think i’d like to try that again….”  WHAT?!  He’s so pretty!

Oh, supplies for this page:  Page Template- Sketchbook Layout 2= (resized to 8.5×11), Basically Neutral Elements Journaling Strips  & Frame overlay from Scrapgirls.com, Alphabet kit- Urban Kiwi Metal Alpha & Numbers by Shabby Princess.  Font for “Stories” is “The Doormen”, downloaded from Free Fonts at Geocities.
