Uppercase Living

Can you see this?  I know it’s kinda weird…. if you click on it, i think you may see it bigger.  Anyway, last Saturday i had some lady friends over to check out this new direct sales product- UpperCase Living.  It’s based out of Utah and actually stemmed from the Scrapbooking industry- these really are Rub-Ons for your walls!  Or planters. Or windows.  Or closets.  Or decorative tiles.  Or framed canvas.  Or mirrors.  Or serving platters.  Shall i continue?  You get the drift.

This is what I’m ordering as a custom design for, you guessed it, my new office/craft room!  The font is called Chocolate Box-and the lettering is about 3″.  It’ll run me about $60.  However, most of the standard catalog designs were under $30!  There are a billions different sayings for a billion different reasons.  There are florals, scrolls, kids designs, abstracts… and there are a tons of color and font options.

Check it out- Uppercase Living.com.  Have a party if you have a demo near you, you won’t be disappointed.

back to the land of blogging…

Okay, since my spark of inspiration that occurred last Tues whilst I  was delivering hostess club orders all across the county, and once explained to my dear husband and he bought into it, I wasted NO time getting started.  Yea, sorry for that run on sentence.

That very next day I tore into the office, moved most of the stuff to the garage sale pile, packed up the stuff I was keeping and moved everything out of the crowded closet.

Thursday I removed odd wood slats nailed to the wall inside the closet (the weird things in our 50 year old house is a whole ‘nother story!), doors, doorframes, re-drywalled the door (it’s going to just be an open doorway).   I patched holes, sanded, painted the closet where the cabinetry and counter is going.

Friday, Keith and i went to Home Depot and bought the upper and lower cabinets, counter tops and random accessories that go along with that.

I will be finishing up the cabinets after work this week.  I believe the craft space will be move in ready by my day off on Thursday!  Keith is still broken, so he’s not truly able to do much.  So this project has been mostly done by sheer determination, stubborn impatience and pure GirlPower.

Debbie, and other ladies who still have unfinished rooms with studs or insulation showing, this is for you!  YOU CAN DO IT!  Don’ t wait for your husbands to get around to it.  Home Depot will load the truck for you, cutting drywall and nailing it up isn’t hard at all. Taping and texturing only takes patience.  YOU ARE WOMAN, HEAR YOU ROAR!  Pick up those power tools and get crackin’!

Seriously, you really can do it.  Nevermind that I did the drywall a little bit wrong  :}  it will all work out fine (hee hee).  You all know how to measure paper and cut, right?  Well, think of it as super thick cardstock,  a utility knife instead of your exacto knife and instead of inches, think feet.  No big whoop.  If you can set an eyelet, you can nail up wallboard.

Here’s the doorway i re-drywalled.  This is the first coat of drywall compound that still needs to be sanded.  However, Keith reminded me that we had agreed to put up oak trim instead of textured wall, since every door in the house is trimmed with wood.  OOPS!  A lot of time spent on this for no good reason.

office-on-sat-mar-28-door-frame.jpg Still, it wasn’t very difficult, so i urge you to not be afraid of installing drywall.

Here are the upper cabinets!  The door still need to be tweaked and the trim/crown molding installed.  They are satin white, the walls are Arabian Sand (think Creamy Caramel) and the counter will be black/bronze.  The closet is 74″ wide, and 44″ inches deep- very large.  It’s nice to have the closet doors off.  Should have done this 5 years ago.

This was our crowded guest bedroom/office.  The sofa is a queen sleeper and when it was extended, guests had about 6″ on all sides to scoot around.  Pair that with the comfort of a sofa sleeper and boy, our guests were in the lap of luxury!  The sofa will be moved to the living room of the granny unit soon.  That wall it’s against will have built in bookcases/lateral file drawers, built by our friend who’s started his carpentry side business.

This was the JAM PACKED closet before I started Weds.  UGH.

Okay, so for those of you who are inspired to get crackin’ (and i hope you are!), here’s the tutorial website I used for helping me along.   It has all kinds of animated tutorials on all different home improvement projects.  Go grab your hammers and drills ladies!

i won! i won!

I finally wore Keith down.  Actually, it wasn’t a hard sell this time.  He was ready for a change in our office space too.   I win, because now i get to move my Craft Lab to the house!  And redecorate our extra bedroom/office in the process!  I am SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED, I CAN’T STAND IT!

So much so, i drew a schematic. Don’t laugh.  I plan on packing up that room and painting tomorrow (took a day off just for this major event!).

[schematic not to scale]

I’m truly hoping we can get this done by the end of April.  As mentioned previously, I am frustrated by limited stamping room access.  I love my Granny Unit room- but it’s also hard to be in the granny unit while Keith was in the house.  This way, I’ll still be “around” and i’ll have my spiffy Epson printer handy.  Imagine…. scrapbooking at midnite!

Keith also has some benefit to my moving into the house.  The room I previously occupied in the granny unit will be his “brewmaster and cheese monger” domicile.  We’ll throw in a few used refrigerators for cheese aging and beer fermentation.  He’ll have all my old counters/cabinets and shelves.  Of course, we’ll repaint the Lavender/Celery/White color combo to something more masculine. :D

Anyway- I’ll keep you posted with this project.  Maybe even get a card done to post too…

easter treat

…but not to eat!  I just wanted to share another stamper’s gallery and blog.  She’s a part of my Great Swaps group and I love her stuff.  One of her cards made me cry today with the beauty of it all.

Okay, so i exaggerate (or am i?).  Please click HERE for Danielle Lounds’ SCS Gallery and HERE for her fun blog where she explains how she did her magic!

If you’re bummed about not getting a sweet treat, try this quiz.  It tests your knowledge on the vitally important topic of DESSERT.  Please let me know how you scored!
