Monthly Archives: July 2008

seriously…

it has been a LONG day and we left the awards ceremony tonight WAY later than expected…. and it didn’t help we took the wrong TRAX train adding an additional 15 min walk to our nite.  It’s 1143 pm and we have to be back at the Convention center by 0715 hrs (that’s OHDARKTHIRTY in cop lingo).  I took so many pics, my camera died.  I will say this:  I AM A STAMPIN’ UP! MANIAC AND I LOVE SHELLI …SHE IS TOO FREAKING ADORABLE!  I never in a million years thought I’d be “that way” but I am.  :D  Plus, the entertainment tonight was phenomenal, and i hate to say it but I’m in love with 4 new musicians.  I hope Billie Joe Armstrong can forgive my little diversion temporarily.

Here’s a little taste of the group- a capella band with 4 distinctly different personalities- all of them ADORABLE!

I got to meet some wonderful, just as sweet in person as in virtual land GREAT SWAP GIRLS!  Shout out to Becky C, Leanne G, Lisa H, Crystal B, Kristin M, Mercedes W, Vera S, Cindy B, Britiney and If i missed anyone its cuz my batteries are dead too.  And of course, I need to shout out to Kim Myers, of Inkspirational Stampers who was an Artisan Award Winner this year.  Her stuff ROCKED!  You can find their links on my blog roll.

More later ladies – tomorrow i’ll have some make n takes to share and Shelli hinted at some great new THING coming our way tomorrow.  Oh, and just so you have a little sumtin’ sumtin’ – PHASE 2 DECOR ELEMENTS IS DA’ BOMB!  WOOT WOOT!

over & out…

So, do ya wanna hear about Convention?

No?  Okay, then i’ll just upload pics of my room.  I’m staying at Little America.  I have to say, when I booked and saw that there was a Grand America, I pretty much decided the Little America was going to be not so grand, and not so great.  I don’t do “motels” and if there’s a Westin available, that’s our standard (we’re DINKS).  HOWEVER, Little America IS GRAND!  I can’t believe how great the room is!  It’s beautiful, comfy, conveinently located- if you ever go to SLC for Convention, or any other reason- Stay at Little America.

None of my pics are doctored due to time constraints. Here’s the room, and the cute little tray of soaps, etc on the vanity.  The 3rd thumbnail is of the stampin’ tool bag & matching camera case that were available for purchase at the Memento Mall (2 hr line- serious!).  Oh…  wait…. what is that little thing there in the bottom corner of that pic?  Is that a CATALOG perhaps?

Let’s get a little closer look, shall we?

Well what do you know? You DO want to know about Convention after all!

OMIWERD!

The front page of the catalog is SCALLOPED EDGE PUNCHED!  Too freakin’ cute.

What’s IN:

  • Chunky glitter from last mini catalog- and another color group that has silver, black & white…
  • Die Cut Blooms
  • Felt Fusion- same colors PLUS another color grouping of Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze & Chocolate Chip – LUV IT!! WANNA MARRY IT!
  • Stylized Silver Hodgepodge Hardware
  • Styled Silver FANCY BRADS!
  • Mini Library Clips
  • 10 different Rub-On selections and you have a choice of buying a pack with 1 white, 1 black or 1 white and 1 chocolate chip sheets!
  • Square Scallop Punch (and of course, stamps that work with it!)
  • Lots of new chipboard
  • The 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon has a lot of the old colors back, including Chocolate Chip and there are a few new versions of striped ribbons.  There are not any of the “packs” other than the twill. OH, there’s a new twill in So Saffron- 7/8″ wide.
  • Eyelets- only basic colors, Gold/Silver/Copper/Antiqued Brass
  • and waaaayy too many stamps sets to even describe.

We got 3 free sets and I LOVE one called Inspired by Nature- it is a background image of grass and on the flip side, flowers!  I can’t show you until I’ve stamped something with it- but maybe tomorrow our make & takes will use that.  Crossing my fingers.  The other 2 sets are cute too- one that goes along with the Eastern style and the other is butterflies & flowers.

So, hopefully this will tide you over until tomorrow!

I’m off to see the Wizard,

the most WONDERFUL WIZARD OF ALL…..

Bwaah!  Stampin’ Wizard, that is!  I leave today for SALT LAKE CITY!

Here are my 2 swap cards- and i only did 32 (i ran out of taffeta ribbon and felt flowers and instead of stressing, decided to just be happy that i’ll have a reasonable amount of swaps when i come home).

The blue Cherish card is a little different than the photo above.  I ended up putting a rhinestone brad from the Pretties kit where the knot of the ribbon is instead, punching a hole under the ribbon to stick the brad through.  I figure, if I was going to run out of all my hoarded treasures, why not go for broke and use them all up.  You know, share the love, yadda yadda… and then BUY MORE STUFF!

eta:  i forgot to add the DEETS on the cards-
My Dear, Kind & Wonderful Friend card:  All Sayings set, Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss, Pink Pirouette & Whisper White cs, Bella Rose DSP, Regal Rose Wide Grosgrain, Felt Fusion Flowers, Build a Brad & Scallop Edge Punch.
Cherish Card:  Baroque Motifs set, Basic Gray, Whisper White Textured, Baja Breeze cs, Basic Gray & Versamark inks, Basic Gray taffeta ribbon.  You can’t tell, but the Baroque Motifs is first stamped in Basic Gray and then stamped over (using the stamp a ma jig) with Versamark and embossed with clear EP.  It looks a little bit fancier IRL.  And I added the clear rhinestone brads to secure the ribbon instead of the knot.  Both image panels are raised up from the base with dimensionals.

Decor Element Swap- we were to take a picture of a new Decor Elements product in our home, car, whatever and make 100 copies.  Then, we swap with each other- 4×6 photos and VIOLA’!  Instant Product Photo Album!

Here’s mine.  I went “artsy” with the angled shot.

Stay tuned for Convention Updates!!

My Project Catwalk creation

is hideous compared to the awesome submissions that I was competing against.

I may as well have made a raincoat with a shower curtain and yellow rubber gloves.   If you want to see the submissions, click this Link to the Project Catwalk Gallery.

In other news,

I am recovering from my 40th birthday.  I think I’ve come to terms with it since the following fears have been unrealized:

  • Wrinkles: FALSE!  I have less wrinkles than my peers – actually- i’m not sure i even really have wrinkles.
  • Gray Hair: FALSE!  My hair didn’t rebel and turn completely gray overnight.
  • Bad Clothing:  FALSE!  My darling Sister In Law and Mother In Law both gave me clothing store gift cards in order to stop my compulsion to buy Grown Up Granimal polyester pantsuits and orthopedic shoes at Sears.  I have some really cute hoodies and capri jeans to show for it!  Oh, and a sexy retro top.  :D
  • Becoming Tragically UnHip: FALSE!!  My lustful obsession with Billie Joe from Green Day     has not faded AND Death Cab for Cutie is still blasting in my car.
  • My friends reject me because I am Tragically Unhip:  FALSE!  My girlfriends surprised me with the best thing ever Sunday morning while we were in Bodega scrapbooking-  A CUPCAKE CAKE in the shape of a Sunflower!  Perfection. Little bit o’ chocolate cakes smothered in almost 2″ of buttercream frosting!!!  Thus proving I’m still a kid who likes frosting better than cake.
  • My Husband Leaves me for a younger woman:  FALSE!  Instead of leaving me, Keith had this gorgeous bouquet of hydrangea, lavender, sage and bamboo leaves waiting for me when I got home from Bodega- reminding me I’m so very lucky to have this great guy, no matter how old i am!  He picked these flowers from our yard and arranged them perfectly in a ceramic pitcher!  I was so impressed and touched with his sweet gesture.

Whew.  I guess I have another 10 years before I have to worry about this shit.

Project Runway fan?

Are you a Project Runway Fan?  Season 5 started last week and its second episode airs tonight.   While catching up on my blog feeds, I clicked on my Pub Calls  subscription (funny that i subscribe to this because i never submit a thing!) and saw there is a Project Runway themed scrapbook contest going on over at ScrapInStyletv.com .  I linked the message board thread with the rules for the 1st week’s challenge.  If you were watching PR last week, you know that it was definitely a challenge!  The designers had to purchase items at a grocery store to come up with an innovative outfit.  Likewise,  SIS scrappers had to use 2 of the following items on an 8.5×11 page:

  • coffee filters
  • garbage bags
  • balloons
  • vinyl table cloth
  • vinyl shower curtain
  • vaccum bag
  • mop top
  • fly swatter
  • paper towel
  • cupboard liner (rubber kind)
  • bouncy ball

Obviously, this is an art challenge, and not meant to be archival quality.   I thought that this would be a fun challenge to try – whether digi-hybrid or full on paper scrapping.  They choose 4 winners each week in addition to awarding points that meet weekly criteria and at the end of the PR season, a grand prize is awarded.  There have been some wonderful pages submitted for the challenge.   Here are two of my favorites that I found today:

“Plastic’s” page

“Kimmik’s” page

Check it out, scrappers!  “make it work!”
