You & me and a mas steiner of…

Bier!

Yup- first stop- Oktoberfest!  Well, we’re staying with some friends who live in Munich and spending 5 days here reliving scenes from our first trip to Munich.  Including more of that crazy Oktoberfest!

This time

I hope to get to Neuschwanstein, if only to try to recreate some of the beautiful photos of this place.

isn’t it GRAND?

Here it is… the card that caused a rift between me and my heat gun.

Here is the swap card that I made for the Great Swaps Girls new catalog swap.  At convention, during one of the several times our gang was looking thru the catalog, we would get to the page with the chandelier set, Grand Soiree’.  Most of the reactions were “eh”.  I opened my big mouth and proclaimed I could make a cute card with it.  I had seen some edgy/grungy chandelier designs out there and thought “no problem!”.  UGH.

First off… when you’re in a swap group that demands excellence or the members get to pummel you with their retired sets if you fail to meet expectations, there is that pressure to perform.  No “eh.. that’ll do” for this group!  Secondly, this set cries out for heat embossing.  Thirdly, I had a 2nd swap for my hostess club that I figured “hey, I’ll make 10 more for them, and the 15 for my GSG swap and I’ll be soo ahead of schedule!!”   WHAT WAS I THINKING? 25?  With 2 panels that are heat embossed?  One on Whisper White, were every missed fleck you didn’t see before heat is brilliantly spotlighted after heat?  UGH.

But… after my hard work and ugly fight with the heat gun (we’re still not speaking), I think it turned out okay.  Deets below.

And I realize I haven’t been blogging much.  We have been busy prepping for 23 days in Europe!!  So we fly out tomorrow for all the adventures that entails.  I do have a few mini posts set to pop up when we’re arrive in the next city.  And I may be able to get some blogging in with my beloved iPod Touch.  Until then, Auf Weidersehen, Au revoir, Adios!

Grand Soiree Card

CS;  Textured Basic Black, Basic Grey, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White
Ink: Versamark, Pink Pirouette
Accessories:  Black embossing powder, Gry taffeta and pink taffeta ribbon, Pretities Kit clear beads

iGotta iTouch!

It wasn’t very hard to convince Keith either… once he saw that we could get the weather report on demand, he was all for it.  ??????? men are weird.

It was really quite painless at the Apple store (if you haven’t been to an Apple store, it is controlled chaos!) and only took us about 15 minutes total.  I want to thank my GSG friend Vera, for confirming that it will very handy in Europe.  And my friend Bernd (who we’re staying with in Munich in less than 6 days!) for agreeing to tell Keith whatever I wanted him to say in order to get it. :D

This is the coolest little gadgetron evah!  I’ve got all my music uploaded…. and working on getting more.  I’ve uploaded Anthony Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential” audiobook for Keith and I to listen to on the plane.  I’ll be renting some movies from iTunes too.  And all the handy features for traveling too- french, spanish and german phrasebooks, Frommer’s Paris guidebook, maps, currency converter, train schedules and games!  It also has this cute thing that will pick up your long/lat and pop your location on a map and send that map link to anyone you want via email- so you can say “Hi sis!  I’m here at Oktoberfest, see?”  or “Hi sis, I’m on the top of the Eiffel Tower, see??”.   I love gadgets.

Enough about that… wanna see my swap card?

Ohhh.. too bad!  But here is a sneak peek.  Becky doesn’t have my swaps yet, so I don’t want to post the full one til next week.  I signed up to use Grand Soiree because everyone doubted that set would make a good card.  I opened my big mouth and said that it would, and i’d prove it!  and that they’d all be sorry!

I think i am the one who’d be sorry.  It took several attempts.  I made 15 – all of which had 2 different parts to heat emboss.  Ugh.  If i never see my heat gun, or a freakin’ chandelier again, i’ll be happy!

iWanna iTouch

Can you help me convince Keith WHY this iTouch will be useful on our 3week trip to Europe?

Here’s what I’m thinking.

  • Navigation /maps
  • Music/Books/Video for the planes & trains
  • WiFi – ‘nuf said
  • Free Travel Applications to download included  French-English, German-English and Spanish-English translations, LocalEats, Airport/Flight Status, Weather, currency converter…
  • Cocktail recipes at your fingertips
  • Contacts- address book

What I don’t know, and i’m loathe to actually go into the Apple store, stand in line forever to ask a salesperson, is WILL IT WORK IN EUROPE?  Or is all my fancy begging, dancing and pleading for this newest gadgetry all for naught?

Anyone have any insight for me on this?   I won’t be buying an iPhone because i’m a happy Verizon customer (even happier once i can ditch my Motorola Razr for the Palm),  so knowing the iTouch isn’t a phone and being okay with that, can someone tell me why this is or isn’t the best idea since Stamps & Ink?
