Something to look forward to…

and no, it’s not the 2nd Twilight movie, New Moon.  Which is another story altogether.

coraline1In February, my new cousin (new, because this part of the family just met after being separated for most of my father-in-law’s life – which you can imagine is a long story so maybe another day) is in the film industry.  Well, he used to work for Sea World making PR films about Shamu (and he had some pretty wild stories about Shamu.  Whatever you do- DON’T sit in the first few rows of a whale show- where you can get splashed – blech).  Anyway, he moved to Portland about a year ago to get away from Florida (he’s wanted there) and struggled a bit to find a job in his chosen profession.    Apparently, he found it!  He just emailed us with news on this stop motion film he’s been working on- Coraline.  It LOOKS AWESOME!

He’s hoping we’ll all go, en masse, to see it, on the day it comes out.  He’s hoping it makes bank so that they have the funds/interest to make the 2nd one.  Which will keep him gainfully employed a little while longer.  Oh, i was just kidding about him being wanted in Florida. :D

So here is my Shameless Plug to put this on your list for February 2009.  Of course, I’m not leaving you hanging- here are some sneak peeks!!

Sneak Peek     Film In Focus preview      USATimes article     LATimes article

And about that Twilight movie… ugh.  Since I can’t say anything nice about it, I’ll not say anything at all! LOL!

Have a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving!

Shout out….

  • to all the Stampin’ Up! Demos in my upline’s circle….
  • to all the Stampin’ Up! Demos in my circle….
  • to all my Stampin’ friends/customers in my Hostess Club and classes….
  • to all my scrappin’ – digi and traditional – buds (only 2 more months til our next getaway!)….
  • to all my PSF in SU land, Splitcoast Land and Blog-land (su or otherwise)….
  • i make it sound like there are hundreds…. well… i guess there are since i opened it up to virtual reality….

Seriously… I cannot believe how awesome  EVERY ONE OF YOU LADIES are!! Brains, Beauty and Talent- you gots it!   Stampin’ ladies are true gems.   Last night was my up-upline’s Holiday party – potluck and “packaging swap”.  There were 15 of us and it was such a fun night.  I’m SO tired because this last weekend I spent so much time baking for my swap (chocolate hazelnut biscotti & hazelnut amaretti cookies), preparing the actual packaging and then of course staying up too late on a work night (hey- i had to catch up on the Amazing Race!).

I can’t believe those Frat Boys made it another round…. wasn’t Dan hilarious trying to march? OMG!

Now that you all are feeling the love, I’ll share my swap.  I wish I could show you the loot I got in return- OMG!  I think my Upline will be posting them on her blog, so when that gets done, I’ll link it so you can see.  I do know one thing… that Lyn Shepard made the cutest Reindeer basket that broke my resolve to resist the SU Bigshot.  It seems that I MUST HAVE IT AT ALL COSTS.  Her reindeer and all those billion Top Note cards/projects going around… grr.

I ordered the tea tins from Papertrey Ink - i love these tins.  I think they’re perfect for Christmas gifts- whether you put baked goods in them, coffee packets, tea packets, stampin’ supplies, jewelry… it doesn’t matter.  I made 14 of these… and ooops… the one on the right is having a label malfunction, but they are each different.  If you haven’t ordered the Alpine Ribbon Originals from the Holiday Mini yet, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!  The stitched felt ties so nicely… it’s not bulky like you might think.  Also, I’d like to thank another demo for helping me solve the ribbon across the top dilemma- Joanne Pullen, and her awesome blog here:

Here are some close ups - forgive the blurry one!

All Supplies Stampin’ Up! unless otherwise indicated:  Papertrey Ink tea tins (linked above), Stampin’ UP! DSPs Ski Slope, Holiday Treasures and Frosty Day, matching SU cardstocks – textured and plain, Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware, Alpine Originals Ribbons, Brown wide grosgrain, Baja Blue striped grosgrain,  oval punch, 5 point flower punch, scallop punch, designer label punch, CropaDile for punching holes in the tin to run the ribbon through, Creative Memories circle cutters.
Stamp set used:  To you & yours-  stamped in Cocoa on Very Vanilla textured cardstock, punched with the Designer Label punch.   “From our house to yours” stamped on vellum cardstock, in Riding Hood Red, and then also punched out with the Designer Label punch, then layered over the house image.  The HPH was bent into a curve to fit on the tin better.

Yay! Rain!

This morning we finally have some BEAUTIFUL RAIN!  Mother Nature has been on my “list” for 2 weeks now.  It is FALL, Lady!  It is NOVEMBER.  The schedule calls for brisk 50-60 degree weather to go along with the bright shining fall sun, not 80 FREAKIN’ DEGREE SHORTS WEATHER!! What gives?  I want my boots!  I want my sweaters!  I want to wear my new french scarf!  (wah!).   Fall is my favorite season.  Don’t be messin’ with my fall.   It is my day off today and I woke up to rain and am so happy!  Do you think I’ll be pressing my luck if I make soup for dinner tonight?

For those of you who’ve been following my blog, you already know about LOLCATS.  I subscribe to the www.icanhascheezburger.com site to get my daily dose of LOLS.  Here is a cute one from this morning:

funny pictures of cats with captions

Icanhascheezburger is an equal opportunity LOL provider.  It isn’t only for CATS, even though that is the primary demographic. Speaking of LOLs, yesterday, while I was on Flickr, I noticed they added a new language to their “greetings” banners.  Do you know what I’m talking about?  When you log onto Flickr, it says “Hola Denise” (or actually, your name) and every time you refresh, it puts up “hello” in another language and “now you know how to say hello in spanish” or whatever.  They’ve recently added LOLspeak.  TOO FUNNY!   So i had “O HAI DENISE!  Now you know how to say Hello in LOLspeak” on my page yesterday.

And finally… my favorite time of year for photography.  This is the view of Fitch Mountain in Healdsburg (on the right) and the Russian River that winds around Fitch Mountain.  Our house is on the other side of Fitch Mountain- 2 blocks from the river (and do we ever walk over? not enough.)  This is from a new natural park that just opened up.  We explored it one HOT day last last week.  Despite the wretched heat, the fall colors are in full swing here.  Below, a vineyard down the road from our house.

So that’s all i got for today – but i will be stamping up 15 Christmas Gifts for a Packaging Swap this Monday night.  In my studio, with my iPod, in my slippers…. while the rain comes down.  Aahhhhh.  Happy Fall, y’all!

better late than never…

Last Tuesday, the color challenge was posted- cc192-mod-christmas CC192 - Basic Grey, Pacific Point and Certainly Celery.  I added a dash of Real Red.

This is my swap card for Hostess Club tonight – using Sketch SC160 as well.  Ugh! Difficult sketch- not my fav, and it looks like I forgot a part of the sketch according to the link. But the color combo is certainly fun!

This week’s color challenge (CC193) is Basic Black, Kraft and Real Red – another great combo.

Details:  CS Colors mentioned above, Basic Gray ink, Real Red narrow grosgrain and Crystal Effects on the tree toppers.

Tonight is hostess club and our project focus on Acetate.  We are doing the Box in a Bag and an Acetate card for Thanksgiving.

acetate-nov2008  This is my first time doing a Box in a Bag, and I thought I’d try it with Acetate.  If you are looking for acetate, please refer to my exhaustive investigation into this serious matter.  I didn’t stamp on either sheet this time, but if you choose to, you need to use Stazon and a delicate touch!

Thanksgiving Window card:  Stamp set- Season of Friendship, Holidays & Wishes, Cardstock- Chocolate Chip, Garden Green, Very Vanilla, Office Depot Transparancy Sheet, Inks- Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Really Rust, Old Olive, Accessories- Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon, Earth Elements brads, 1 3/8″ square punch.  To make the window, I punched out 4 square on scratch paper and adhered them onto the Chocolate Chip piece of cardstock, lined up evenly.  Then just punch again at the squares.
Snowflake Box in a Bag:  Ski Slope DSP, Office Depot transparancy sheets, Riding Hood Red cardstock for box base (inside bag) and for tabs.  Accessories- Round Tab punch, Red Riding Hood striped grosgrain, 1/4″ hand held punch, Scallop Edge punch, Large & Small Felt Flurries,  Pretties Rhinestone brad, silver cord.

Thanks for stopping by!  Daralyn, are you happy I posted?  :D  See u tonight!
