Running Clothes & Pockets!
Are you a runner? Do you use RunKeeper, Endomondo, Runtastic or Runmeter on your phone to track your pace/route & elevation while running? Or just want to have the phone with you in case of emergency? Are you as annoyed as I am about the scarcity of running apparel with decent pockets? I’ve tried armbands – ouch! Waist packs – too bouncy. What do sports apparel manufacturers have against pockets, anyway?
I will only purchase running clothes if they have a decent pocket for my iPhone. Even if I end up getting serious and buying a Garmin, the phone will still come with me in case of emergencies. I know I’m not alone in this desire for pockets- at a race expo recently, I ran into a couple of women who were also looking for running tanks with pockets and were also dismayed at the lack of them! We were ogling a New Balance Shimmel that had a nice, big zippered pocket in the small of the back. So, I am compiling a list of running apparel that have pockets that fit the iPhone. These are items I have tried and think work well and don’t bounce. Listed as well are items I plan to try. Please, if you have a favorite running tank or shorts that hold an iPhone securely, send me the info or the link! Thanks!
Spendy, yes. But flattering and the pocket fits the iPhone w/no bouncing, and even your chapstick/keys/money and a fuel bottle (small flask). I wear mine constantly and it has held up with lots of washing (cold) and drying (med or low).
.
Very lightweight fabric (the material is a little too lightweight for my comfort) but the pocket is large enough for the iPhone and zippered. Maybe you can fit a key as well, but not much else. Good enough support for my b cup girls, but larger cup sizes beware. Phone stayed put.
Shorts! Adidas Response 4“
My iPhone fit in the right hip pocket, zipped in nicely and NO BOUNCE! They’ve passed the test! $30

Pending Review:
Skirt Sports Multi Sport Tank $60
Ridiculous price. I have not purchased this because I’m waiting for a coupon code or some birthday money!! But the tank looks nice, comes down low to the hips (like the Lucy tank) and the pocket is lower back center w/a zipper. Someday!
Skirt Sports Multi Sports Bottoms $55
Side pockets but no zipper. The website shows models slipping their Nanos in, but I’m curious if the pockets are secure enough for a heavier iPhone. Also not thrilled with the price. I think $45 is really my max for tops/bottoms unless there is something SPECTACULAR about the piece! Unrelated to iPhone pockets- Skirt Sports has a cute running skirt to be worn over these shorts and has snaps for race bibs. I really like that idea and will probably order the skirt first.
Louis Garneau Women’s Flow Run Singlet $32
Another on my list to tri – get it? Tri? As in Triathlon…

I actually wear the athletic works shorts from Walmart. All my other running gear is higher end, but I got these when I first started running…and they are all I have found with a decent iPhone pocket so I’ve never upgraded (though I keep thinking I should try an armband!). I want a lululemon running skirt…but the pockets are too small!!! The wm shorts are good though, besides the pocket they are flattering and the fabric is comfy.

Cool list. I have a runningskirts.com skirt and the side pocket is just big enough for my iphone. But I’ve gotten so used to holding it or using my SpiBelt that I haven’t tried it out.

Thanks Jaime!
I keep meaning to try one of those RunningSkirts out- when you run with the phone in the pocket, do you feel it’s secure?
